Every basketball court that a person plays on must be symmetric, meaning that what you see on one side of the court should be exactly the same on the other side. If it is not, then it is a mismanaged basketball court. One half of the court should be the exact mirror image of the other side of the court. The entire length of the court is 94 feet by 50 feet wide for the NBA. On each half court, the painted lanes are the free throw lanes and the circle and the long 3 point arc. The outdoor courts are mostly made from asphalt, while the indoor courts like the gyms at the YMCA center are mostly made of hardwood.

The center circle is where two players enter the center area so that they can have the jump ball. The referee throws the ball into the air and the two players from opposing teams have to try to grab the ball or push it to their teammates. Having the ball first is important in basketball because your team has the chance to make the basket first and give your team a little confidence.
The sideline is the border along the length of the court. The mid court line is the line that separates both halves of the court and the borders along the ends are called the end line. The center circle is the circle that is located right in the middle of the court. For the free throw lane, it is where the player who is fouled, shoots the ball. This lane is 15 feet, and offensive players may not be inside the lane for more than 3 seconds unless he or she is shooting the ball, while a defensive player can remain in the lane for as long as they want to.

A player who is fouled gets free throws, which are easy shots, they stand on the throw line 15 feet from the basket, and their feet cannot pass the line or the shot will not count. While a player is getting ready for their free throw shot, the remaining players line up defense-offense-defense-offense and the players stand up on the side of the lane.
The three point arc forms a near semi circle, any shot that is made from beyond that arc and not inside that arc is worth three points. The radius of the arc slightly differs in a variety of leagues. The NBA has the 3 point arc at 23 feet and 9 inches, and 20 feet and 9 inches in the NCAA.
